Back in the day, the Hennessy used to be a highlight of the season. A proper handicap with proper horses, including Denman’s imperious performance. No longer. Tomorrow’s Coral Gold Cup is a pale shadow of what once was. It’s still a Class 1 with over £140,000 to the winner and decent Irish entries and I think it will go that way with Horantzou d’Airy an appealing 12/1. I’ll also have an each way on French raider General En Chef who is being lined up for bigger things.
In the 12:40 at Newbury I like Denmat at 4/1.
Jeriko Du Repinot (13/2) is well handicapped over hurdles in the 14:25 but he’s been trained for chasing and this is very much an afterthought. I like Queens Gamble at an appealing 5/1 and respect Excelero (9/1) who has tipster support.
At Newcastle, Lavender Hill Mob (1/7) is one to watch for later engagements in the Paul Ferguson‘s Jumpers To Follow Introductory Juvenile Hurdle at 11:53.
Skyjack Hijack (10/11) is chasing six wins in a row for Jennie Candlish in the 13:03 and this front runner is one that I’ve followed, but Zanndabad for “shrewd” Tony Martin is a proper threat.
In the Fighting Fifth (14:10) I’m all over Mystical Power to turn over Sir Gino who wasn’t supposed to be here until the latest Constitution Hill drama.
The Rehearsal Chase (15:20) is another shadow of its former self, having been a traditional slog for National contenders including previous winners (get ready for a long list for old time’s sake)
- Bregawn (1982)
- Burrough Hill Lad (1985)
- Bonanza Boy (1989)
- Carvill’s Hill (1991)
- Master Oats (1994)
- See More Business (1997, 1998 and 2002)
- Neptune Collonges (2006)
- L’Homme Presse (2022)
Carl Hinchy’s Some Scope (12/1) is the Racing Post nap in the 15:20 and I’ll go with Neon Moon (8/1) in a wide open race.
At Doncaster I’ve Just spotted that Dameofthecotswolds (4/6) is inthe 12:52 and should win.
Don’t miss a decent card at Fairyhouse where I’m very keen to see Impaire Et Passe (2/5) make his chase debut in the 11:35.
The 13:20 is a decent maiden hurdle featuring 2023 Champion Bumper winner A Dream To Share at a very appealing 2/1.
The Grade 3 WillowWarm Hurdle at 13:55 is a hot race. I think that Bottler’secret (3/1) was very unlucky last time out and should win this.
Not the greatest day’s racing and I’m just about to review today at Newbury which could be more informative in the longer term.
Anyway, here’s a Lucky 15:
- Horantzou d’Airy (9/1)
- Denmat (7/2)
- Skyjack Hijack (5/6)
- A Dream To Share (2/1)
£2 stake with Paddy Power for a potential return of £1369.33. Realistically much more interested in the places.
Good luck!
